Industrial Natural Gas: Clean and Efficient Combustion - Petrobras

Natural Gas

In the industry, natural gas is used as fuel to supply heat, generate electricity, and generate driving power. It is also used as feedstock in the petrochemical and chemical industries, particularly to produce methanol and fertilizers for ammonia and urea production. It is also used as a steel reducer in steel manufacturing.

Natural gas burns clean, free of pollutants, and it is ideal for processes that require burning in direct contact with the final product, such as in the ceramics industry, and in glass and cement manufacturing.

It can be used in these segments:
- Steel: Smelting, cutting and welding of metals (costs lower than acetylene, its competitor);
- Petrochemicals: Manufacturing of rubber, polymers, alcohols, and ethers;
- Industrial fuel: Glass industry (molding, welding, and finishing), ceramic industry (firing and drying), paper and pulp industry (drying), and food industry;
- Agricultural: Grain drying, pest control and burning of weeds, heating and sterilization of the livestock environment.
