Petroleum Asphalt Cement (PAC)

pavimentacao.jpg

This is a high viscosity oil byproduct that is solid or semi-solid at room temperature and black or brown in color. It is obtained by means of oil refining, and has non-volatile waterproofing and adhesive properties. It turns liquid when heated and returns to its original state after cooling, thus presenting thermoplastic behavior.

PAC consistency depends on the remaining amount of the oily fraction, and this is a criterion that is used to classify it and that is translated as viscosity or penetration.
