Boaventura Energy Complex

General Information

In line with our current strategy, the municipality of Itaboraí, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, now has the Boaventura Energy Complex, a unit focused on energy diversification and sustainability.

In the third quarter of 2024, the Boaventura Energy Complex will start its operations with the processing of raw natural gas, significantly contributing to the increase in the supply of natural gas and LPG to the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The Natural Gas Processing Units (UPGNs) installed in Boaventura have the capacity to process 21 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The Complex will also have units for the production of low-sulfur fuels and Group II lubricants, along with their auxiliary units. The construction and assembly phase of these units will begin in 2025, with the bidding processes currently underway.
With a focus on sustainability, a contract has been signed between Petrobras and Águas do Rio, ensuring that the Boaventura Energy Complex will use only reused water in its processes, contributing to the improvement of sanitation for the population and, consequently, reducing the discharge into Guanabara Bay.

It is estimated that the future projects of the Boaventura Complex will generate over 10,000 direct job opportunities during the construction phase in the Eastern Fluminense region, where it is located.
