Technology to take you further

We help drive the economy and build the roads on which it travels. The pavement of streets and highways is the infrastructure that supports mobility with comfort and safety. Good pavement has a direct impact on transportation costs, improves engine energy efficiency, and reduces pollutant emissions.

We develop asphalt products, such as CAP, with the technology and quality to withstand the severe impacts of traffic and weather, and we market them for use in highway paving and the waterproofing industry.

Petroleum asphalt cement (PAC)

CAP is a high-viscosity petroleum derivative with waterproofing and adhesive properties; it is non-volatile at room temperature and atmospheric pressure and is black or dark brown in color. CAP is also known as asphalt binder. Its primary application is in the paving industry. For this application, CAP is used as a binder in the production of asphalt concrete, which is used to pave most of the paved highways we know.

Applications

CAP is used in the production of hot-mix asphalt concrete (HMAC), hot-mix ready-mix concrete (HMRC), hot-mix asphalt sand (HMAS), and other types of mixtures. It is also used in the production of waterproofing materials for the construction industry, such as asphalt membranes and water repellents. Our asphalt cements are the primary raw materials used in the manufacture of polymer-modified asphalt, rubber-modified asphalt, and industrial asphalts in general.

Currently, Petrobras offers two types of CAP to its customers: conventional CAP and CAP Pro.

Conventional CAP Line

It fully complies with the specifications of the National Petroleum Agency and is a high-quality product that meets market needs. It is available in two versions, which differ primarily in terms of the product’s penetration characteristics:

CAP 30/45

It is a more durable material, suitable for moderate to heavy traffic conditions and/or regions with warmer climates. Currently, CAP 30/45 is produced at the following Petrobras refineries: REGAP, REDUC, and REPLAN.

CAP 50/70

This material has lower viscosity and higher penetration than CAP 30/45; it is used for moderate or light traffic conditions and/or colder climates. Currently, CAP 50/70 is produced at the following Petrobras refineries: REGAP, REDUC, REPAR, REFAP, and LUBNOR.

It is important to note that specifications and uses may vary according to technical standards and the specific needs of each project.
