CAP: Wherever you go, it’s the same energy that drives you
We’re everywhere. Where we aren’t yet, we’re paving the way to get there. Learn more about our CAP, Petroleum Asphalt Cement.
We help drive the economy and build the roads on which it travels. The pavement of streets and highways is the infrastructure that supports mobility with comfort and safety. Good pavement has a direct impact on transportation costs, improves engine energy efficiency, and reduces pollutant emissions.
We develop asphalt products, such as CAP, with the technology and quality to withstand the severe impacts of traffic and weather, and we market them for use in highway paving and the waterproofing industry.

Highway paving work with heavy machinery in operation.
Petroleum asphalt cement (PAC)
Applications
CAP is used in the production of hot-mix asphalt concrete (HMAC), hot-mix ready-mix concrete (HMRC), hot-mix asphalt sand (HMAS), and other types of mixtures. It is also used in the production of waterproofing materials for the construction industry, such as asphalt membranes and water repellents. Our asphalt cements are the primary raw materials used in the manufacture of polymer-modified asphalt, rubber-modified asphalt, and industrial asphalts in general.
Currently, Petrobras offers two types of CAP to its customers: conventional CAP and CAP Pro.
Conventional CAP Line
It fully complies with the specifications of the National Petroleum Agency and is a high-quality product that meets market needs. It is available in two versions, which differ primarily in terms of the product’s penetration characteristics:
It is a more durable material, suitable for moderate to heavy traffic conditions and/or regions with warmer climates. Currently, CAP 30/45 is produced at the following Petrobras refineries: REGAP, REDUC, and REPLAN.
This material has lower viscosity and higher penetration than CAP 30/45; it is used for moderate or light traffic conditions and/or colder climates. Currently, CAP 50/70 is produced at the following Petrobras refineries: REGAP, REDUC, REPAR, REFAP, and LUBNOR.
It is important to note that specifications and uses may vary according to technical standards and the specific needs of each project.
Petrobras' asphalt products include the conventional petroleum-based asphalt binders CAP 30/45 and CAP 50/70, as well as the CAP Pro line, which includes CAP Pro 50/70 R, CAP Pro W 30/45 R, and CAP Pro AP 70/85.
CAP is a high-viscosity petroleum derivative with cementitious properties; it is non-volatile at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, and is black or dark brown in color.
CAP Pro W 30/45 R should be used in asphalt mixtures designed for CAP 30/45, or possibly for CAP 50/70 depending on design conditions, where the goal is to achieve better working conditions, environmental performance, and ease of application (application temperature, colder days, longer distances). CAP Pro AP 70/85 should be used where the goal is to better meet RAP recycling demands. Currently, material selection processes and mix designs (balancing) can allow CAP Pro W 30/45 R and CAP Pro AP 70/85 to be used under severe traffic conditions with good results.
