How and why do we develop more sustainable products?
To ensure that Brazil has sufficient, sustainable, and affordable energy, we invest in research and technologies that expand the use of clean energy sources, but we also develop low-emission fuels that can be used today by combining petroleum products with renewable materials.
In practice, the use of more sustainable energy not only emits fewer greenhouse gases but is also made accessible to everyone while utilizing existing engines and equipment, such as current fuel pumps.
We have already developed the first sustainable aviation fuel produced in Latin America—Brazil’s carbon-neutral gasoline—as well as a line of asphalt products that includes one made from recycled materials and another that reduces emissions by allowing application at lower temperatures.

Sustainable products are those produced from renewable raw materials—whether of animal or plant origin—that emit fewer greenhouse gases than their traditional alternatives. One example is Petrobras’ SAF, which combines fossil and renewable raw materials and produces up to 80% fewer emissions from its renewable component.
We have developed a variety of more sustainable products for different applications.
- For road transport: Diesel R reduces emissions by up to 90% in its renewable component;
- For light-duty vehicles: Podium Carbon-Neutral Gasoline has all its emissions offset through tree planting;
- For aviation: Petrobras SAF is Latin America’s first sustainable aviation fuel, with a renewable component that emits up to 80% fewer greenhouse gases;
- For ships: Bunker VLS B24 is produced with 24% biodiesel and emits up to 20% fewer emissions than traditional marine fuels;
- For paving: the CAP Pro line offers various more sustainable asphalt products, including CAP Pro AP, which contains 25% recycled materials, and CAP Pro W 30/45, which reduces emissions by approximately 65%.
The use of sustainable fuels and products is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions—particularly carbon—and minimizing environmental impacts. And doing so gradually, by combining fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, ensures that the energy transition is accessible and available to everyone.
