By land, sea or air, Petrobras takes you further. Aviation kerosene, also known as QAV, is the fuel that supplies airplanes and helicopters equipped with jet turbines, turboprops or turbo-fans. Its main use is in commercial air transport.
Petrobras Aviation Kerosene is produced using streams from atmospheric distillation and conversion processes, followed by processing. In order for this oil byproduct to present adequate characteristics for its use in aircraft, several physicochemical criteria are required during its production, which include fluidity (flow), stability (storage), and adequate combustion for these engines.
Its properties meet international quality requirements that prioritize risk reduction and aim to guarantee safety during the flight.
Quality requirements
- Provide maximum flight autonomy.
- Provide clean, complete burns with minimal waste formation.
- Provide easy, safe starts and easy re-ignition.
- Flow at low temperatures.
- Be chemically and thermally stable.
- Not be corrosive to aircraft materials.
- Show minimal tendency to water solubilization
- Have a clear appearance indicating the absence of sediments
- Do not present free water to avoid the development of microorganisms and the formation of deposits that could clog the filters
- Offer safe handling and storage
